About

Welcome to Pegasus Bay Palms

Established in 2003, Pegasus Bay Palms has been growing palms in Canterbury for Cantabrians for over 15 years. Our aim is to provide genuinely frost hardy palms, grown in Canterbury's unique climate.

Founder Adam Reid studied botany and plant and microbial sciences at University of Canterbury. Noticing a lack of variety in local palm plantings, he "retired" in 2003 to embark upon the exercise in extreme patience known as growing large grade palm trees.

All of our palm trees have been grown from seedlings here in Canterbury. Sourced from a North Island grower as tiny single leafed plants resembling a blade of grass. All palms have been grown  in bags for easy transportation and will transplant happily into your garden . Our palms have been outdoors in North Canterbury and exposed to the elements for at least 7 years, with less frost hardy species given some shelter under a Macrocarpa tree over winter months.
